Silesian traditional music and dance – traditional dance party with workshops by Kapela Fedaków.
During this event Kapela Fedaków will introduce you to traditional music and dances, mainly from the region of Silesia, but also from other parts of Poland. The band will teach dances such as ‘trojok’ (the triple dance), ‘wiwat’ (the cheering dance), or such folk musical games as ‘mietlorz’ (the broom game). You will also hear Silesian traditional dance melodies and songs played on folk instruments and sung with a natural, ‘folk’ singing style.
Kapela Fedaków is a family band of young people playing old music. They are deeply inspired by traditional music of Silesian region, as well as traditional music of whole country, Poland. They claim that music should be useful for people, that is why they play mainly for dance, they love when people sing and play with them spontaneously. Kapela Fedaków makes also social actions, when they renew old musical traditions, such as Christmas visits of carolers in people’s houses or Lenten singing meetings. The band leads regular workshops of traditional dance and music in Katowice since 2015, where amateurs learn to play instruments, sing and dance to traditional music.
The band consists of:
Iga Fedak – ethnologist, ethnomusicologist, folk dance instructor; in Kapela Fedaków she sings, plays drum and teaches dances;
Kuba Fedak – musician, composer; plays accordion and hammered dulcimer;
Karolina Fedak – violinist and luthier.
This sounds really interesting!
Now we have a task for you. If you like to play and maybe you have your own instruments – bring them! We will make sure you will have time to make music together!
