Laboratory of mazurka improvisation
This event is repeated every 7. day until 2016-02-02.
We are inviting for the first workshop of Piotr Zgorzelski this year that will take place as usual on Piękna str. in Warsaw.
There will be live music by the outstanding fiddler Mateusz Niwiński!
What I would like to propose might as well be called the Labolatory of Mazurek Improvisation or the Mazurek's Freestyle because it will be about Polish mazureks rhytm.
First we will lern the traditional steps of the village mazureks and obereks and the village way of dancing. Then we shall develop our skills in pairs, ornamentation and manners taken from particular village dancers. The examples will be mainly from Central and South-East Poland (regions of Mazovia, Radom, Kielce, Lublin). Basing on these examples we will improvise and develop the forms. We will consider and draw in ornamentations coming from other than Polish dances.
I am heartfully inviting everyone to join in and learn to dance together as one group, to feast and exchange.
Piotr Zgorzelski - Plays the folk bass and performs traditional dances. A co-founder of the “House of Dance” Association, for the last fifteen years he has taught traditional Polish dances at workshops in Poland and other European countries. An ethnology graduate, Piotr learnt to dance directly from original dancers of Polish villages and towns, as well as from archival sources. He has developed his own method of dance instruction and has authored and organised cycles of educational cultural projects connected with traditional music and dance. One of his proudest achievements was a project that revived Warsaw’s pre-war tradition of summertime open-air dances. Piotr co-operates with the Scena Lubelska 30/32 theatre as an actor and dancer. To date he has received four scholarships from the Ministry of Culture for conducting cultural activities.
Four, every week Tuesday meetings will be taking place from the 5th until to 26th of January from 6 to 8 p.m.
